“27 Club” scratches every single itch we have to hear about the wickedly talented and dead-too-soon stars whose legacies continue to shock the world. Jake Brennan flexes his story-telling chops once again on this iHeartPodcasts and Double Elvis production, narrating us through the ill-fated lives of icons like Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Amy Winehouse.

Now with four completed seasons, each made up of around 10 to 12 episodes, the “27 Club” podcast drops us off at the beginning of the end of their lives. Episodes of this podcast should be listened to in chronological order, although seasons themselves don’t need to be heard in any particular order (although Jimi, Jim, and Janis’ stories are intertwined). You’ll find yourself burning through the 30-minute episodes of this podcast in no time at all.

You’ll recognize Jake Brennan’s voice from a number of other popular podcasts that are produced by his own audio-media company, Double Elvis. He hosts many podcasts about the lives, times, and crimes of celebrities and musicians like “BADLANDS,” “DISGRACELAND,” and “Blood On The Tracks.” In fact, we’re such huge fans of his podcasts that we wrote this listicle so you can find them all in one place. Double Elvis also produces other music podcasts like “About A Girl” and “Dear Young Rocker.”

Tragic, dramatic, scandalous, and often deeply misunderstood, there aren’t enough words to describe the life and death of artists who shifted our cultural landscape. “27 Club” is a vivid biographical docu-series that never dulls for even a second. Through its long-form storytelling, you’ll learn all of the little details you never knew about these musicians.

Jake Brennan’s narration is unsurprisingly enthralling, keeping us completely engrossed in these stories as if they were happening in real time right before our eyes. Since this podcast is first and foremost entertainment media, some details are embellished and some dialogue fictionalized, but not at the expense of factual storytelling.

Now with the power of hindsight, “27 Club” tells us the many sides of the story. We hear about the final years of Amy Winehouse’s life, as her unprecedented fame sent her spiraling while the world simply watched. Hear how Janis Joplin reached the height of her career and an early end at the same moment, her story mixed with tales of FBI investigations and Hell’s Angels.

You’ll be wondering how just the last years of these legends’ lives can be stretched across 10 to 12 episodes, but by the end, you’ll be wishing there were more. Find out how Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, and Winehouse died and who is truly responsible for their early graves.

The most recent season of this podcast, about Amy Winehouse, ended in January 2022, so we are anxiously awaiting the next season of this phenomenal podcast. If you haven’t already listened to the brilliant “27 Club” podcast, do yourself a favor and binge it all today.
