‘Pulling the Thread with Elise Loehnen’ unravels big questions with Joy Harjo, Loretta Ross, and more
Former goop Chief Content Officer and co-host of “The goop Podcast,” Elise Loehnen, presents “Pulling the Thread,” a podcast from Audacy’s Cadence13. With her latest endeavor, Elise shares her inquisitive nature with 45-minute, deep-dive episodes into why we do what we do, and how we can understand our experiences in a vaster, spiritual, social, and historical context.
Forever curious! Elise is asking important questions and will be joined by doctors, cultural luminaries, thinkers, scientists, theologians, and more. Elise’s selection of guests are big thinkers who have helped us bring meaning and acuity to a world that can feel chaotic and overwhelming.
Elise’s enlightening conversations with guests
Since growing up in Montana, she’s relied on asking questions and reading for answers to learn more about culture and how societies function. Elise turns to nature and horse whispering when needed, and often feels like an observer and outsider of culture.
Elise hopes the podcast’s conversations will help us better understand ourselves and others as we reflect and learn more about what’s required to heal ourselves and the world. Through enlightening conversations, Elise and her guests will plant seeds of awareness to evolve, progress, and rise to challenges all while exploring today’s questions.
Building the house of knowledge with Joy Harjo, 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States
The first episode spoke with Joy Harjo, 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States, and world-renowned performer and writer of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. They discussed her second memoir, Poet Warrior. Joy shared wisdom from her book about meaning, communication, rituals, and metaphors. Everyone’s collective narrative is interwoven, and diversity is key. We have to acknowledge even the most painful counterparts. As Joy poignantly expressed, “Humanity is messy, each of us starts with ourselves, it’s horribly messy and then multiply that times millions. And that’s an incredible, lovely mess.”
Re-rooting through art
Joy explains that these tribulations become “building blocks for the house of knowledge,” so we can learn from these experiences and evolve. For Joy, some of the greatest tools are turning challenges into the arts, whether writing a poem or song, to shift our focus with this knowledge and identify our truths. Joy encourages us to stop and listen.
More guests this season
This season, Elise’s illuminating guests include Riane Eisler, social systems scientist and cultural historian; Elizabeth Lesser, bestselling author and the co-founder of Omega Institute; Loretta Ross, professor, activist, radical Black feminist; Jamie Wheal, Executive Director of the Flow Genome Project and Co-Author of the global bestseller Stealing Fire; and Olivia Laing, British writer, novelist and cultural critic.
Elise lives in LA with her husband and two sons. Besides her extensive background in media, Elise has co-written 11 titles and is currently working on a book about women and the patriarchy. Fun fact: In 8th grade, Elise participated in the National Mathletes Championship.
