Who’ve you got, Astros or Braves? 8 podcasts to listen to this World Series

Sports October 26, 2021

As we countdown the hours to the first pitch of Game 1, let’s have some of the best minds in baseball tell us what’s up. It’s been a dramatic run up to this 2021 World Series: the Houston Astros are still in hot water with non-Astros fans for their 2017 sign stealing scandal, and the 88-win Atlanta Braves toppled the defending champs and 106-win LA Dodgers, partying like it’s 1999. Will the Astros’ third visit to the World Series in five years prove fruitful, or will Atlanta win it’s first title of the 21st century?

Anyway, we thought you’d like to make sure you are as up to date as possible on who is the favorite to take the pennant, who are the key players, and a little history on how these two franchises rose to the top. So here is our round up of podcasts to listen to this World Series.

Ballpark Dimensions

Listen to ‘Ballpark Dimensions’

Matt Meyers and Mike Petriello use the same data as the cutting-edge MLB front offices to breakdown the World Series position by position in their most recent episode. For all of the biggest baseball news, highlights, and analytical breakdowns, the MLB’s “Ballpark Dimensions” is covering all the bases.

The Edge: Houston Astros

Listen to ‘The Edge: Houston Astros’

You know we had to. It’s difficult to ignore the fact that the Astros cheated, faced few consequences, and are right back in the World Series. While their coaching staff from the 2017 run was liquidated, most of their core players remain. Also, the Boston Red Sox (who’ve faced sign stealing accusations, as well) had a funny feeling that the Houston Asterisks—sorry, Astros—may have been up to their old tricks in the American League Championship Series. Either way, “The Edge” is a great podcast about the whole scandal.

The Lead

Listen to ‘The Lead’

In the most recent episode of “The Lead,” The Athletic’s Britt Ghiroli tells us how these two teams match up behind the plate, what’s at stake for both franchises, and the players that may have the most impact. With the Astros in their third World Series in five years, and the Braves back for the first time since the turn of the century, don’t miss this episode from the best storytelling podcast in sports.

755 Is Real: A Show About the Atlanta Braves

Listen to ‘755 Is Real: A Show About the Atlanta Braves’

For any Braves fans out there, or just anyone who doesn’t want to focus on the Astros, “755 Is Real: A Show About the Atlanta Braves” is giving you all information on the National League Champion. Locked and loaded with former Braves reliever Eric O’Flaherty as host along with David O’Brien, you’ll be brought inside the clubhouse on all the Braves latest news. The Braves haven’t been to the World Series since 1999, so let’s see if Prince will be blasted in the streets this November.

Locked On Astros

And for those of you rooting for the ‘Stros, keep up to date with “Locked On Astros.” A daily podcast from the Locked On Podcast Network, hosts Eric Huysman and Brett Chancey are betting on the Astros all the way. You can hear a Game 1 preview from them here.

The Athletic Baseball Show

Nothing Personal with David Samson

Listen to ‘Nothing Personal with David Samson’

For a true expert look at the Series, former president of 18 years for the Miami Marlins David Samson knows a little something about what a World Series winning team looks like if his ring has anything to say about it. In his most recent episode, Samson talks about what it’s like before the first pitch of Game 1. Talk about nerves. From CBS Sports and the MLB, “Nothing Personal with David Samson” is a daily podcast giving us a unique perspective on the game.
