On “I Am America,” Tracee Ellis Ross highlights inspirational stories about the human experience, identity, community, inclusion, and the nation’s infinite potential. The thoughtful episodes present unexpected stories to help “expand our understanding of identity, the idea of community, and the possibility of our country.” Episodes feature guests on journeys of belonging, joy, hope, and how their lives have impacted others.
Inspired by Langston Hughes’ words, “I Am America” is a collection of unique stories about the nation that Tracee knows well – a complex fabric woven by people’s varied experiences, finding their own paths in systems that tried to erase them. Tracee is holding space for vulnerable stories of belonging, and more truths that we do not nearly hear enough of these days – you’ll hear true stories reframing American identity, color, culture, and community.

Former businessman Tony Hillery joined the first episode to share his experiences finding purpose and joy volunteering at a Harlem elementary school. Hillery was dedicated to building community and making a difference in the lives of his students while helping them meet their goals.

She is also the director & founder/CEO of PATTERN Beauty, a haircare company.
