Not all stories have endings. “Unresolved” is a true crime series delving into cold cases, unexplained phenomena, and head-scratching mysteries with host Micheal Whelan. As a kid, Micheal watched Unsolved Mysteries on TV, hosted by Robert Stack. “Unresolved” takes a similar approach when researching cases, sharing on the podcast, and deep-diving into some of the world’s strangest unknowns.

Tune in biweekly to hear standalone episodes that can be streamed in any order. Start the multi-part episodes in chronological order, like “The San Fernando Massacres,” “The Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Murders,” “The Main Line Murders,” and “The Investor Murders,” just to name a few.

The average episode length is an hour, with short stories running under 30 minutes long. Since 2015, Unresolved Productions has released over 250 episodes, and has a 4.5 out of 5 average rating on Apple Podcasts. If you’re a fan of “The Generation Why Podcast,” you might enjoy “Unresolved.” Both podcasts focus on facts and unraveling the storyline with minimal tangents.

Micheal posts episode versions of live stream conversations he’s hosted. Last summer, Micheal spoke with Jesse Pollack and Robert Kolker about The Long Island Serial Killer. Robert discussed his work on the case, recent developments, his books (Lost Girls, Hidden Valley Road), and more. Micheal also records update episodes for breakthroughs on previously reported stories, such as “The Con Queen of Hollywood,” “The Annecy Shootings,” and “Beatriz Mota.”

If you’re an avid true crime podcast listener, you’ll be thrilled with the variety of cases covered in “Unresolved,” and some of the stories shared have frayed endings you would not expect. Hear about “The Alaskan Avenger,” a vigilante killer targeting registered sex offenders in their homes. The “Fallen Angel” episode was all about a terrorist’s campaign in 2003, sending envelopes with ricin, dangerous poison created from castor beans, to offices in Washington D.C.

“The Dupont de Ligonnè Affair” chronicled an aristocratic family impacted by their disappearing patriarch, Xavier, in 2011. 5 family members wound up dead. “The Acid King” killed on Long Island in part of an alleged satanic cult ritual in 1984, and authorities believed they found the perpetrator, 17-year-old Ricky Kasso. From 1934 to 1938, “The Cleveland Torso Killer” was said to have been responsible for at least 13 murders around Cleveland’s Kingsbury Run, where victims were dismembered and their body parts were spread across different locations. This episode also explored Eliot Ness’ work, a famous Prohibition-era detective who fought to solve the case.

Micheal studied broadcast journalism at Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow College of Communication. He encourages listeners to submit suggestions for coverage in future episodes. For Patreon subscribers, Micheal records “Resolved” true crime episodes for cases that have bookends and developed a spin-off series called “Hoax.”
