At Podsauce, we’re fans of rewatch podcasts as more and more TV shows get companion productions in audio form. From “The Always Sunny Podcast” to “Office Ladies” and “I Am All In with Scott Patterson,” we’re happy this podcasting genre exists. Most recently, we’re listening to “Welcome to Our Show,” a weekly series revisiting the hit show New Girl that aired from 2011 to 2018.

New Girl began when eccentric schoolteacher Jess moved into an apartment with three strangers after learning her boyfriend cheated. Her new roommates, Schmidt, Nick, and Coach, support her decisions, along with her BFF Cece. The TV show follows their lives in the loft and having fun with friends.

iHeartPodcasts’ “Welcome to Our Show” heads back to Apartment 4D for a weekly rewatch-a-thon, sharing behind-the-scenes takes of New Girl. Hosted by IRL friends and former co-stars Zooey Deschanel (Jess Day), Hannah Simone (Cece Parekh), and Lamorne Morris (Winston Bishop), the trio reunites to break down every single episode and recap favorite memories, on and off screen. Every week, they’ll play versions of the True American Game, where the rules might not make any sense (but that’s okay!). Throughout the podcast, the hosts are joined by guest stars, cast/crew members, and writers.

Since January 2021, “Welcome to Our Show” has released weekly episodes running 90 minutes long on average. We’d recommend streaming from the first episode, but any order you fancy works just as well if you want to hear from a specific director, actor, writer, or dig into one of your favorite episodes of the show.

The first episode covered New Girl’s pilot, castings, creative decisions, and the first podcast gameplay of True American Game – a cross between a drinking game, the board game Candyland, and “the floor is lava.”

In the podcast’s second episode, Jake Kasdan spoke about directing New Girl’s first two episodes. He chatted about the casting process, working with New Girl creator Elizabeth Meriwether on scripts, and he searched through Nick’s closet for favorite memories from the show. Jake told the hosts about adapting Jumanji, working on Freaks and Geeks, and bringing True American Game to New Girl. Jake’s work on the pilot earned an Emmy nomination!

The podcast will review episodes or talk to one of the show’s fine cast and crew members, and they will answer your burning questions like if there’s a bear in almost every episode. How gross was the bar? Where did Schmidt look sexiest in the apartment? In future episodes, listeners can look forward to hearing from co-stars like Justin Long.

If you have a question you’d like answered in a future episode, fans are welcome to submit via email: welcometoourshowpodcast@gmail.com.

To head back to the loft, tune into new, weekly episodes, wherever you find your favorite podcasts.
