‘Boss Lady Energy’ hosts share what they wish they knew in their 20s

In this episode, “Boss Lady Energy” hosts Courtney Tezeno, Kristen Maughan, and Nikki Hendry stopped by Podsauce to chat with Alesha and Dax. They’re old friends of Dax’s, so this interview was extra special.

Before the interview, Alesha and Dax shared their podcast picks. Alesha’s true crime Murder Most Foul pick was Ashley Flowers’ “International Infamy,” a true crime series covering 15 cases over 15 countries. Alesha listened to the episode about a lady disguised as a social worker in Mexico who became “The Little Old Lady Killer.” Alesha was intrigued by “The Dutch Godfather,” when billionaire beer heir, Freddy Heineken, was kidnapped, and Alesha appreciates how detailed Flowers’ journalism is.

Dax’s pick this week is “Where Should We Begin? with Esther Perel” that was recommended by previous Podsauce guest Sidney O’Reilly from “We Regret To Inform You: The Rejection Podcast.” Dax enthusiastically deemed it one of the best podcasts he has ever listened to! Host Esther is a psychotherapist who counsels couples on the show, so you can be a fly on the wall for their sessions. It’s awkward and fascinating to hear other people’s issues and the advice Esther offers. Dax binged the series and recommended first listening to the episode about a couple who decided to open their marriage, if you’re just getting into the series.

After sharing their picks, Alesha and Dax were joined by “Boss Lady Energy’s” Courtney, Kristen, and Nikki. Their podcast started during quarantine when they wanted to create a community during tough times. When they were chatting amongst themselves, they realized they could create a podcast to bring diverse women together from different backgrounds for raw conversations in a safe space. “Boss Lady Energy’s” episodes are all about friends, family, relationships, emotions, and more, and they do no shy away from uncomfortable subjects.

Dax discussed the episode about checking in with strong friends. Courtney, Kristen, and Nikki say they’re all type A personalities, and it’s important to check in and see how others are doing no matter how strong they present to the outside world. The hosts said their monthly “What We Wish We Knew…” series resonates with listeners, and shared episode highlights of what they wish they knew in their 20s.

Courtney learns from “The Homecoming Podcast with Dr. Thema,” a show to “feed your spirit” and share tools to help you on your personal journey. Kristen’s pick is the spiritual podcast, “Under the Skin with Russell Brand.” Nikki listens to “Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay,” a society and culture podcast featuring a former Bachelorette star.

Lastly, Dax shared the Odd Pod pick of the week, “Roy’s Job Fair,” hosted by comedian, Roy Wood Jr., correspondent from The Trevor Noah Show. In this series, Roy chats with other comedians about work memories and what it’s like in the workforce.
