‘Drive Time’ host and NFL expert Travis Wingfield chats about his passion for the Miami Dolphins, ‘Breaking Bad,’ and his fave podcasts
Podsauce attended the Audacy Beach Festival in December 2021 and interviewed some guests backstage in Fort Lauderdale, Florida before checking out the music lineup with artists like AJR and Steve Aoki. On this episode, hosts Alesha and Dax chatted with Travis Wingfield from the sports podcast “Drive Time with Travis Wingfield.” Travis shared his passion for sports, Breaking Bad, how he honed his writing skills on Miami Dolphins internet forums, and his favorite comedy podcasts.
This week, Alesha shared she loves the show Ted Lasso. Star of the show, Brett Goldstein, has an interview podcast called “Films to Be Buried with with Brett Goldstein,” recommended in Podsauce’s Sneaky Celebrity Podcast segment.
Dax’s pick is “Rate Your Pain! ER Nursing Stories,” a podcast hosted by ER nurses in Oklahoma sharing gross and fascinating stories from their perspective. Dax listened to the “Use the Rear Entrance” and “This is Making Me Itch” episodes, and you’ll also learn some medical terms while being mildly horrified by these true stories.
Travis Wingfield has an encyclopedic knowledge of the NFL and loves dishing on the Miami Dolphins on his topical show, 5 days a week. “Drive Time with Travis Wingfield” episodes break down news, share previews, recaps, and more. Travis loves curating the music playlists that play throughout the episodes, and Alesha was a fan of his selections. He shared that he learned to write by posting on Dolphins forums when he was younger. Travis shared his inspiration to start a podcast and his journey from another podcast that once made $20 a month in ad revenue, leading up to hosting “Drive Time with Travis Wingfield.”
Travis is an avid podcast listener, enjoying comedy podcasts like “Bill Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast,” “This is Important,” “2 Bears, 1 Cave with Tom Segura & Bert Kreischer,” and “The Always Sunny Podcast.” He also tunes into sports shows such as “Bootleg Football.”
This week’s Done in the Day recommendation is the super-short, six-episode true crime series, “The Thing About Helen & Olga,” hosted by Dateline’s Keith Morrison. Hear the shocking story of an elderly murdering duo who targeted men.
