Interested in NFTs? Hear why ‘The Coin Bureau’ host Guy Turner cautions against them
This week, Dax and Alesha are diversifying their portfolios by speaking with the host of “The Coin Bureau,” Guy Turner. He describes his podcast, which he hosts alongside his friend “Mad” Mike Mooch, as a one-stop shop for crypto education. While the two love crypto, this isn’t a podcast meant to hype up the currency or attempt to see listeners on particular coins or tokens. On “The Coin Bureau,” they just want to share their love for cryptocurrency and the technologies around it, including NFTs, decentralized finance, and stablecoins.
Guy also has a very successful crypto YouTube channel, titled the same as this new iHeartPodcasts show. When asked why he has decided to dedicate so much of his time to educating others on cryptocurrency, he tells us that when he started getting into crypto in 2013, there were not many trustworthy resources to learn how it works.
But when he stepped back from attempting to understand crypto, he realized that he needed to learn how the world’s real money and financial systems actually work. Dax comments that he appreciates how Guy and Mike dedicated the first episode of “The Coin Bureau” podcast to explaining how this real money works.
Dax, who knows nothing about this new financial landscape, asks Guy the question that all of us have thought at one point or another: should I invest in NFTs? Guy tells us to be extremely cautious about buying an NFT, saying that we only ever hear about very few winners who earned millions when it comes to them.
He says that NFTs are a very young class of assets, and we are only just learning what they can do. While they are interesting and worth investigating, most of them will make you no money, and it’s more about luck than any sort of knowledge about crypto.
Alesha, who is in a similar position as Dax, asks how urgent it is that people learn about crypto. Guy thinks that everyone should at least try to understand it, not because it is necessarily the future of money, but because it can help you understand the current way our money works. He’s seen people become more educated about finance as they dive into crypto, even when it comes to basic things like saving and budgeting. He believes crypto is a great launchpad into a comprehensive financial education.
As for podcasts that Guy listens to, one of his favorites that has nothing to do with crypto is “Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know,” a podcast all about conspiracies, mysteries, and the unexplainable (or perhaps the deliberately unexplained 🧐). But because he can’t stay away from crypto for long, he also listens to “Unchained” and “Bankless.” He also recommends to Dax and Alesha “The Adam Buxton Podcast,” which Sam Walker of “American Vigilante” also recommended to us in her episode.
Dax and Alesha have some podcast picks of their own to share with us. Dax hits us with a celebrity true crime classic podcast, “DISGRACELAND.” From murder to drug smuggling, Billie Holiday to Paul McCartney, this podcast covers it all. Dax is especially fond of their recent episodes about Taylor Swift and the many stalkers she has dealt with in her career. It’s a shockingly long list and a truly shocking episode that you won’t want to miss.
This week, Alesha thought she was recommending a podcast all about love and relationships, but turns out it’s actually about a cult that promises eternal love. “Twin Flames” is a popular new Wondery podcast about the Twin Flames Universe, a cult started by Jeff and Shaleia Ayan. They claim to have a divine love and that they can help you find your own. They conned women out of time, money, friendships, and happiness with their YouTube channel, and you can hear all about it on “Twin Flames.”
And to top it all off, Alesha has one last recommendation for us in the form of Kate and Oliver Hudson’s podcast “Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.” On it, they speak with other high-profile siblings, like Clint and Ron Howard, Nina and Alex Dobrev, and Jessica and Josh Alba. Because both Dax and Alesha are huge Vampire Diaries fans, she especially suggest the Dobrev’s episode where they talk about bonding in adulthood through their love for travel.
