‘Downton Abbey: The Official Podcast’ is a re-watch series hosted by Anita Rani and Jacqueline Coley in conversation with cast and crew
This week, “Downton Abbey: The Official Podcast” dropped its first episode for fans eager to return to the Abbey. It’s a re-watch series hosted by Rotten Tomatoes Awards Editor Jacqueline Coley and British broadcaster Anita Rani, as they’ll recap the television show and countdown to the upcoming film, Downton Abbey: A New Era.
The series could not have selected two better hosts, since Anita and Jacqueline are super-fans. Episodes will feature special guests like Downton Abbey‘s actors, creators, crew, and more who helped the fictional world blossom on screen.
The British historical drama ran for six seasons and concluded in 2015. Set in the early 20th century, the storyline follows the Crawley family and their servants in their sprawling, country home. Episode one begins in 1912 after the Titanic sank and Downton Abbey’s future is at odds.
Lord Grantham’s supposed heirs (his cousin James, and his son, Patrick) die on board. Without male successors to claim the throne, the estate is in trouble. In this aftermath, Lord Grantham must find a new heir. As the TV show unfolds, other historical events lead to the start of World War I In 1914.
We’d recommend starting this podcast from the first episode when Jacqueline sat down with one of Downton Abbey’s creators and Academy Award winners, Julian Fellowes. They explored why Downton resonated with so many fans and unpacked the real-world events central to some of the show’s plot lines beginning with the Titanic sinking in season 1. So far, the episodes are less than an hour on average.
This podcast is presented by Focus Features. Downton Abbey: A New Era reunites the original writers, principal cast, and more characters, hitting theaters on May 20. New episodes of “Downton Abbey: The Official Podcast” are available weekly wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
