Audacy’s “It’s OK to Say Gay” highlights LGBTQ+ voices in engaging conversations for both folks from the queer community and allies. In times when the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and anti-trans laws are in the works, this podcast celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and serves as a reminder that “It’s OK to Say Gay.” Host/podcast manager/journalist Femi Redwood is sharing interviews, inclusive storytelling, and deep-diving into issues impacting the queer community.

Start the podcast’s episodes in any order, and the series is an especially timely listen for Pride Month this June. In episodes less than 25 minutes on average, hear impactful stories from the hosts and guests celebrating the LGBTQ+ community’s resilience, pride, diversity, and love.

In upcoming episodes, listeners will meet a group of transgender teens changing misinformed opinions of the trans community. Stay tuned to hear how queer Black bar owners are creating safe spaces for their customers. Episodes revisit meaningful conversations from audio archives, like a sit-down with Matthew Shepard’s parents, the 21-year-old University of Wyoming hate crime victim who was attacked, tied to a fence, and left outside to die.

This year marks the first post-pandemic Pride, with nationwide in-person events. The first episode wonders if Pride will be a party or a protest. Some city-based Pride organizations have faced backlash for buddying up to police officers and corporations. With growing anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, some activists believe Pride should get back its roots and start uprising again. In this episode, Femi is joined by podcast producer, comedian, and contributor Anddy Egan-Thorpe to examine Pride’s future.

Episode 2 honors elders and shared that LGBTQ+ seniors have higher rates of loneliness for a number of reasons. These factors include family estrangement due to their sexuality, gender identity, retirement home discrimination, and non-traditional support systems. Hear from one woman who emphasizes how important LGBTQ+ seniors continue to be and why you shouldn’t forget about elders this Pride.
