Cringe and cry-laugh along to a carnally convoluted chronicle with ‘My Dad Wrote a Porno’
Well, the title truly says it all. When Jamie Morton’s father wrote and published a pornographic novel, Jamie decided that he, too, could get something out of this. He gathered his two friends, James Cooper and Alice Levine, to read the book with him. And thus, “My Dad Wrote a Porno” was born.
It is unequivocally one of the wildest and most original podcasts you will ever come across. It first debuted in 2015 with Morton’s father’s first book in his series Belinda Blinks. The first season garnered attention worldwide and it consistently ranks as one of the top comedy podcasts ever. In December, the podcast is coming to a close with final episodes. A recent bonus episode shared fans’ stories. We hear that one listener successfully scared a bear with the podcast, while another fan used the episode to propose live. Did he say yes?
The podcast follows the raunchy, ridiculous and somewhat nonsensical sex life (but who reads a porno for the plot?) of Belinda Blumenthal, who we first meet in her interview for a position at Steele’s Pots and Pans. Her sexual escapades only become more and more lascivious as she continues to seduce seemingly all of London. As Morton reads his father’s fiercely descriptive porno, Cooper and Levine cackle in delight at the onslaught of sex that Belinda partakes in on a daily basis.
It seems like even knowing that your dad wrote a porno would be cringe-worthy enough, but like King Midas, Morton has turned it into pure gold. We can only assume that the success of “My Dad Wrote A Porno” has correlated to book sales, considering there are now six whole books detailing Belinda’s sexual romp across Europe.
And listening to “My Dad Wrote A Porno” doesn’t just give you a hilarious 30-minute break from reality, because you will also learn the many ways that human genitalia can be described. Whether it’s adjectives you never would have associated to sexual organs or completely unnecessary similes and metaphors that you hope to never hear used again in reference to anyone’s genitals, your vocabulary will certainly expand ten-fold.
Morton reads his father’s book just as earnestly as his friends abhor the way Flintstone writes erotica that there is no episode that will leave you hanging. Nor will it leave Belinda hanging. Bleh. Each episode covers an entire chapter, and intermingled between chapters come miniature footnotes, where they cover anything from teaching Jaime proper accents to interviewing stars like Samara Weaving, Elijah Wood, and even Rocky Flintstone himself.
Honestly, we will be shocked if “My Dad Wrote A Porno” hasn’t been recommended to you before. Listen along to this absolutely hilarious and utterly indecent award-winning podcast, and thank all of the goodness that your dad hasn’t written a porno. As far as you know.
