Sarah Lawrence Cult, The Murdaugh Murders, QAnon, and more explored on ‘Sinisterhood’
Dallas comedians and friends Christie Wallace and Heather McKinney cover the creepiest topics, true crimes, cults, and more in weekly episodes. The hosts deep-dive into cases reminding you to lock your doors at night after hearing the kinds of stories shared on “Sinisterhood.”
Since 2018, “Sinisterhood” has been going strong with over 200 episodes and counting. Stream the multi-part episodes for each story in sequential order. Episodes are less than 90 minutes on average. The show recently re-released “The Disappearance of Kristen Smart” episodes because trial hearings were underway in March.
If you’re fascinated with con artists and cults, check out episodes on “The Sarah Lawrence Cult.” When a student asked roommates if her father, Larry Ray, could stay with them until he got back on his feet, they agreed. Ray has just been released from prison and joined campus life.
Sarah Lawrence College’s students didn’t realize they would be swept into a sort of cult with manipulation, exploitation, torture, and abuse over the next 10 years. Ray preyed on students, participated in coercive behavior, and was later charged for sex trafficking, conspiracy, and extortion, among other crimes.
Another culty episode discussed Bentinho Massaro, a one-time Instagram Guru who founded a community and claimed to have special powers – weather control, connections to aliens, and being an actual God. This story gives us Bad Vegan vibes as Massaro recruited followers and got them to bankroll his costly vacations, drinks, and cigars.
Hear about Maurizio Gucci’s murder and the tumult leading to his tragic end in an episode earlier this year. There are episodes about robberies, high-profile cases like The Murdaugh Murders, wrongful convictions, QAnon, and more.
There are also episodes that aren’t necessarily crime-centric, diving into topics like Bigfoot, dragons, and mythical creatures. Hear about missing persons like “The Flannan Isle Mystery,” a lighthouse keeper that vanished. Christopher Thomas Knight was “The North Pond Hermit” who isolated himself in the woods for 27 years. In his years flying solo, he did not apparently seek human contact, but he’d take anything he could get including food, clothes, tools, and books. An episode investigates if he was a criminal in hiding or just a loner.
There are haunted episodes digging into spooky places like the Kells Irish Pub and haunted objects like dolls. “Sinisterhood” presents live versions of their show to in-person audiences and releases the audios in the podcast feed. In other episodes, Christie and Heather are joined by guests and fellow podcasters like Ben and Ronnie from “Watch What Crappens” and Tybee Diskin from “Chasing Immortality.”
With the hosts’ comedic chops and their thoroughly-researched approach to covering a wide variety of subjects, we’d recommend this series for fans of “And That’s Why We Drink” and “Morbid.” Tune in weekly for new episodes of “Sinisterhood,” presented by Cloud10 and iHeartPodcasts.
