CNN’s documentary series, “When Diana Met…,” explores Princess Diana’s connections with politicians, dignitaries, public figures, celebrities, and more, where such meetings gave insight into the Princess of Wales’ persona, enabling the public to learn truths or misconstrue details of her life.
Hosted by Aminatou Sow, each episode of “When Diana Met…” will delve into these meaningful interactions, and listeners can hear take-away anecdotes about power, control, and gender in society.
In this series, Aminatou will unpack Camilla Parker Bowles’ relationship with Princess Diana. Camilla is Prince Charles’ current wife. She recaps how one of Camilla and Diana’s first meetings left a great impression, since at the time, Diana was engaged to Prince Charles. Aminatou will explore the narrative that expanded from Camilla and Diana’s rapport, and how this influences Camilla today.
Andrew Morton, author of the biography Diana: Her True Story, will join Aminatou to describe his 1-1 experiences with Princess Diana. Andrew will share his archive of recorded interviews, memories from their first meeting, and how this impacted Diana and his career as a ground-breaking biographer and celebrity connoisseur. Additionally, Andrew has written several biographies including Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s story in Meghan: A Hollywood Princess and Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters about Queen Elizabeth II and her sister.
Aminatou is a writer, influencer, businesswoman, and digital strategist who co-hosts the podcast “Call Your Girlfriend” with her long-distance BFF, Ann Friedman. They discuss life, friendship, culture, politics, and more on weekly episodes.
Aminatou and Ann co-authored the book, Big Friendship: How We Keep Each Other Close, based on their podcast’s themes. They developed a beautiful concept called Shine Theory to help and empower others: “When one of us shines, we all do.” We love this concept! Aminatou also co-founded Tech LadyMafia to help women in tech navigate their career paths, drawing from her previous experience in Google’s digital marketing department.
