Andy Holloway of ‘The Fantasy Footballers’ talks about making a career out of fantasy football

September 22, 2021

Andy Holloway of “The Fantasy Footballers” lore joined Podsauce for a quick chat about his hit podcast. Dax was excited as ever to have his old friend on the show and listen as they talk all things football, fantasy, and community through sports.

But first, we need to get to our host picks. Dax does his If You Like This… segment, saying that if you are a fan of “WTF with Marc Maron,” then you might like “Dark Fonzie,” which Maron also hosts. Dax explains that it is an expansion of the first 20 minutes of “WTF”, basically a conversation between Maron and his friend/co-host, Del Ray.

For Alesha’s pick this week, she listened to Pineapple Street Studio’s “9/12,” a podcast about people who woke up on September 12, 2001 to an entirely new world. Filled with unique stories from people about the days following 9/11, it’s a different take on the tragedy.

Then, Holloway is on to talk all about creating one of the biggest sports podcasts in the world. “The Fantasy Footballers” is a podcast that breaks down the world of Fantasy Football with analysis, opinions, and matchup-winning advice. Holloway accredits the success of “The Fantasy Footballers” to the parallel rise of podcasting and fantasy football. He talks about how grateful he is that his career his talking football five days a week, and that he and his co hosts, Jason Moore and Mike Wright, love the community they have built through fantasy football.

Dax and Alesha compliment their family friendly approach, and Holloway jokingly comments that they are the Disney of the fantasy football world. He also says that the trio often get messages thanking them for keeping it clean, since many of their fans listen to their podcast in the car with kids.

Interestingly, Holloway’s podcast picks have nothing to do with football! He’s a fan of true crime, which just warms Alesha’s heart, and says he loves podcasts like “S-Town” and “Root of Evil: The True Story of the Hodel Family and the Black Dahlia.” He says he keeps finding reasons to drive his car just to listen to podcasts like “Dirty John” and “Serial.”

In the same vein, Dax and Alesha give us the top trending true crime podcasts. Alesha tells us that “Monster Presents: Insomniac” reminds her of Jake Gyllenhall’s Nightstalker, as the host dives deeper into serial killer psyches, he begins to develop insomnia. They also hit us with “Suspect,” “Accused,” “Sworn,” and “The Sneak.” We guess you’ll have to listen to the entire episode to find out more about them.

That’s all for Podsauce this week, tune in next week for more podcast picks!
