Ladies, leave your man at home: Sabrina Merage Naim and Kassia Binkowski talk about womanhood around the world in ‘Breaking Glass’
Evoke Media presents “Breaking Glass,” a documentary podcast about womanhood across the globe. In the series, hosts Sabrina Merage Naim and Kassia Binkowski facilitate timely conversations with guests about issues like gender inequalities. Featured guests are pioneers and inspiring women who are changing the world, shattering all the glass, and rewriting the female narrative.
Season two started this March with new, weekly episodes to stream in any order with standalone topics and conversations with guests. On episodes less than an hour each, hear about topics like abortion, sex, body image, gender violence, poverty, sexism, and more discussed in season one. Since 2020, “Breaking Glass” has released over 40 episodes and counting.
The first episode this season discussed reproductive freedom with influential attorneys, Kathryn Kolbert and Julie Kay. Kolbert is a reproductive rights attorney, entrepreneur, and journalist who was named one of the “100 Most Influential Lawyers in America” by The National Law Review.
Kolbert argued Planned Parenthood v. Casey in 1992, appearing before the Supreme Court in a landmark case that is credited as saving Roe v. Wade and called “one of the most audacious litigation strategies in Supreme Court history.” They explained their “passion for this issue is that it strikes at the heart of women’s autonomy and integrity and ability to make important decisions about their lives.”
Julie is a human rights attorney and mentee of Kathryn’s at the Center for Reproductive Rights. In this episode, Sabrina spoke with Kolbert and Kay about 1992’s Supreme Court case and Julie’s argument before the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights. These lawyers fiercely defend and advocate reproductive rights around the world. They explained what we need to do to further protect human rights if Roe is overturned. Kolbert and Kay told Sabrina about the book they co-wrote, Controlling Women: What We Must Do Now to Save Reproductive Freedom.
Tune into new, weekly episodes of “Breaking Glass” to honor Women’s History Month this March and all year-round.
