‘Origins with James Andrew Miller’ deep dives into HBO’s uncertain future in the latest season, ‘HBO: Present, Past, and Future’
“Origins: HBO: Present, Past, and Future,” is the seventh installation of the hit podcast series written and hosted by award-winning journalist and bestselling author James Andrew Miller. In the book, Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers, Miller chronicled HBO’s groundbreaking story of how the iconic, premium brand revolutionized content and viewers’ relationships with TV.
Miller worked on his latest book for 3 years and conducted over 757 interviews. Based on Miller’s book, the podcast’s new season is all about HBO, complete with new interviews from the media company’s executives, programming chiefs, and executive producers. They’ll dive into the business side of things, how HBO strives to transform the industry, and captivate audiences in our modern, competitive landscape.
All five episodes of “Origins: HBO: Present, Past, and Future” drop on March 30. Previous seasons covered Almost Famous, Sex and the City, Saturday Night Live, Alabama, ESPN, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
From episode 1, Miller will unpack HBO’s history, the programming, pivotal moments, and its uncertain future. Listeners will hear firsthand accounts of success stories in TV, movies, music, sports, and wins resulting from sharp business decisions – and how luck can sometimes translate ideas into fine realities.
This season, we’ll hear from a slew of guests, including former Time Warner chairman Jeff Bewkes, current HBO and HBO Max Chief Casey Bloys, former CEOs Richard Plepler and Chris Albrecht, HBO Documentary legend Sheila Nevins, creator/executive producer/head writer/showrunner of The Wire David Simon, Insecure showrunner Prentice Penny, HBO’s former head of entertainment division Carolyn Strauss, HBO EVPs of Programming Amy Gravitt and Nina Rosenstein, HBO EVP Head of Drama Francesca Orsi, producer Nina Noble, and former Time Warner co-chief executive officer Nick Nicholas.
Miller explained, “This chapter of ‘Origins’ reflects interviews conducted since the publication of my HBO book, and I hope it gives listeners the opportunity to hear new and personal thoughts from key individuals in HBO’s history.” He is thrilled to partner with Cadence13 and share this riveting story. Cadence13’s Chief Content Officer and Founding Partner Chris Corcoran said, “Once again, Jim’s masterful interviewing and storytelling skills are on full display for this exciting new chapter of ‘Origins.'”
