Guest storytellers take a ‘RISK!’ and walk on the wild side to share bold stories
“RISK!” is a unique storytelling show that takes a walk on the wild side with host Kevin Allison (from the comedy group The State, MTV, Comedy Central, HBO, Netflix). Guests join episodes to tell heartbreaking, hilarious, shocking, and all-too-real stories they thought they’d never share aloud. Each episode is an unexpected and emotionally-raw journey featuring voices from all walks of life.
Fans of “The Moth,” “This American Life,” “The Memory Palace,” and “Snap Judgment” will enjoy this series, but “RISK!” dares to be bolder. “RISK!” is a live show and releases weekly podcast episodes with poignant stories united by a theme. The live shows happen monthly in New York City, Los Angeles, and online, in addition to occasional tours around America, Canada, and the UK.
The series has been going strong with over 800 episodes since 2009 that can be streamed in any order. All releases run less than an hour on average.
Two recent episodes covered the theme “Close Encounters” and dove into UFO-related stories. Ufologist David J. Halperin shares his surprising alien encounter, and in part two, Bella Clarke tells Halperin about grappling with uncertainty after possibly spotting a UFO.
During Women’s History Month this March, a classic “RISK!” episode shared three women’s stories. Hear stories of survival and transcendence from comedian Cameron Esposito, storyteller Amber Drea, and sex educator Betty Dodson.
There are stories about Black lives, Asian American lives, scary stories, and holiday-themed tales. Previous all-star guests have included Sarah Silverman, Kevin Nealon, Marc Maron, Lisa Lampanelli, and Samantha Bee.
Listeners are encouraged to pitch their own stories (over 10 minutes long) or anecdotes (under 4 minutes) for consideration on future shows. The series is interested in candid stories you’d likely only share with your therapist, a close friend, or keep to yourself.
