#SpookySZN: ‘The Boo Crew’ interviews with Phoebe Bridgers, Emily Hampshire, and more are bloody entertaining
Bloody Disgusting presents “The Boo Crew,” a horror and pop culture podcast inviting listeners and guests to “crawl onto the gurney for a Boo Crew autopsy.” With conversations around news, TV, film, creativity, commentary, and more, each episode’s variety is wicked.
The Crew started when friends and horror genre fanatics Leone D’Antonio, Trevor Shand, and Lauren Shand banded together to talk about their favorite things on a podcast. Each episode, you’ll hear reviews and recommendations if you’re wondering what to watch next. Episodes feature interviews with horror filmmakers, actors, artists, and musicians, and just about anyone who shares The Crew’s passion for the genre.
Awesome guests!
“The Boo Crew” is a must-listen for diehard horror fans and pop culture devotees. Since 2018, their guest lineup has been spook-tacular! A recent episode featured filmmaker and author Axelle Carolyn (The Haunting of Bly Manor/Creepshow/The Manor). Other guests included Ilana Glazer & Sophia Bush, Kat Von D, William Butler, and Amy Lee from the band Evanescence, just to name a few.
On “The Boo Crew,” Kesha explained her love of the supernatural, true crime, and horror films. Bella Thorne expressed how horror influences everything she does and shared her experience working on The Babysitter. We also learn about Bella’s horror memorabilia collection, including a life-sized Babadook. On the episode with Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Charlie Benante, they chatted about art, horror influence, and working with composer John Carpenter (Halloween soundtrack & more). Listeners heard from the rock band Royal Blood over two episodes.
Adrien Brody and Emily Hampshire on Chapelwaite
In August, “The Boo Crew” chatted with actors Adrien Brody and Emily Hampshire about their new Epix series, Chapelwaite. Based on Stephen King’s “Jerusalem’s Lot,” this Filardi Brothers (The Craft, Flatliners) series takes place in a nightmare-inducing Victorian manor that Emily still can’t get over. Adrien shares the heavy FX production used throughout filming, and how he pulled real worms from his nose for takes. The actors described Chapelwaite’s storyline where Captain Charles Boone and his family undergo trauma, inherit a house in the 1850s, and learn about its disturbing history after they move in. The family is shunned by society, and experience life-changing horrors inside.
Phoebe Bridgers
On another recent episode, singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers joined The Crew to discuss her music, love of horror, true crime, magic, death metal, and spooky-infused songwriting. She has a natural affinity for the horror aesthetic, too, and shared where to find cool stuff in California. Phoebe talks about why she likes the horror genre and what makes a film too scary for her to watch. She shares why films like the second Blair Witch Project are her favorite. And how Harry Potter and Gilmore Girls top her watching list. Phoebe’s a Slytherin! She shares why she listens to “My Favorite Murder,” and why she is interested in serial killers.
Trevor Shand on Podsauce!
On Podsauce’s second episode, host Trevor Shand chatted with Alesha and Dax about his favorite scary movies and podcasts. Trevor’s podcast picks included “Prop History” and “Bleeders DIEgest.” Trevor shared what it was like to have composer and musician Danny Elfman (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland etc.) at his home for the podcast.
