“The TMZ Podcast” features Harvey Levin and his crew from TMZ’s TV show and website, bringing their edgy approach to news and hot topics to the podcast space. Charles, Courtney, Charlie, and Harvey will host the episodes.

TMZ has been covering Britney Spears’ conservatorship for over 13 years. The first two episodes of the podcast focused on Britney’s conservatorship and her breakthrough in court on September 29, 2021. The internet rejoiced! The judge suspended Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, from her conservatorship which she has been under for 13 years. During this time as co-conservator, Jamie and an outside financial group controlled Britney’s finances and life decisions. In 2008, Britney was appointed a conservator after her hospitalization and struggle with mental health issues.

We’ve been following the #FreeBritney movement, as it amped up over the summer with Britney’s plea to a Los Angeles Court asking to end her conservatorship. So far, “The TMZ Podcast” is thorough with #FreeBritney updates. Harvey explained how Britney’s case began receiving more attention after The Times‘ documentary, Controlling Britney Spears, was released in January, 2021. Fans became aware that Jamie also gave a business manager and his team control over business aspects. Britney and fans believe this was a form of exploitation and abuse, as she was boxed out of controlling her life’s decisions.

In a recent episode, Harvey unpacked Wednesday’s court decision. It’s interesting to hear Harvey’s analysis of Britney’s case, since he is an attorney. Britney’s lawyer Matt Rosengart filed documents asking to end the conservatorship, and is investigating abuse of Jamie’s role.

What Harvey and co. wonder is if the conservatorship should be lifted with or without a final mental evaluation, which would be examined by the judge. As a term of her conservatorship, Harvey brought up that she was tested every 6 months. The hosts said that this factor is left out of a lot of conversations, and they wonder what the outcomes could be by debating the pros and cons in a heated discussion, specifically since the only information the public knows about Britney’s mental health state is vague.
