‘Food Psych Podcast with Christy Harrison’ is a body-positive, anti-diet series filled with advice on intuitive eating and more
“Food Psych Podcast with Christy Harrison” welcomes listeners to break free from diet culture and offers support in the form of advice from a body-positive perspective. Christy strongly believes in finding peace and freedom with food as a nutritionist, certified intuitive eating counselor, journalist, MPH, RD, and CEDS. On episodes, Christy is joined by guests to discuss their relationships with food, self-compassion, body image, exercise, eating disorders, and more.
As an anti-diet dietitian, Christy speaks from her own experiences with disordered eating, dieting, and writing about food. Christy and guests share self-help tools to help listeners accept their bodies while releasing any food-related guilt. Episodes challenge diet culture and the restrictive behaviors often marketed as viable health and fitness strategies. Christy provides safe and non-triggering advice for anyone in recovery from eating disorders. Christy’s conversations guide listeners to identify unhealthy behaviors and release weight stigmas and associated body shame.
In a recent Health is Wealth segment on Podsauce, host Alesha shared she listens to “Food Psych Podcast with Christy Harrison.” Alesha appreciates Christy’s encouraging attitude toward intuitive eating and nourishing yourself where moderation is key. Christy will never tell listeners to deprive themselves of foods they love, and there was an episode covering the detrimental emotional effects of restrictive eating.
Since 2013, the series has released over 300 episodes running less than 90 minutes each on average. Christy often tackles listeners’ questions in episodes on subjects like intuitive eating, and the podcast episodes can be streamed in any order.
Currently, the podcast is re-releasing episodes as Christy is working on other projects and writing a book. In a recently reposted episode, Christy discussed diet culture’s racist roots with sociologist and author Sabrina Strings. Sabrina unpacked her book, Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia, and the history of “race science” in diet culture. Christy and Sabrina explained why using weight to gauge your health is problematic and how culture prominently influences science.
In addition to podcasting, Christy wrote Anti-Diet: Reclaim Your Time, Money, Well-Being, and Happiness Through Intuitive Eating. She teaches online courses and offers one-on-one coaching. The Wellness Myth is scheduled to hit book shelves in 2023.
