In Supernatural, brothers Sam and Dean Winchester embarked on a road trip in 2005, relying on each other to save the world. Along the way, they dealt with fate, faith, and family while tackling ghosts, monsters, and demons and making some important paranormal discoveries. From their youth, The Winchesters were trained by their father to combat evil forces and track dangerous creatures. Their mother was killed by a supernatural entity, and scary memories and secrets loom over their work.
Benedict and Speight were joined by Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) to unpack the Pilot and “Wendigo” (S1EP2). Jared said filming the Pilot was like a movie, since they had a lot of time to study the script and adapt on set in contrast with future episodes – they were presented the script three days before filming and had to memorize lines at top speed. The Pilot set the precedent for the use of classic rock tracks written into each episode.
Supernatural was created by Eric Kripke, and there’s a prequel in production – The Winchesters is set to follow Sam and Dean’s parents. There were two spinoff series by The CW called Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters. Tune in for new, weekly episodes of “Supernatural Then and Now” wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
