‘Small Town Dicks’ host and voice of Lisa Simpson Yeardley Smith explains how her true crime podcast brought a little love into her life
“Small Town Dicks” host and voice of Lisa Simpson, Yeardley Smith, joined Podsauce to dish on her true crime podcast, getting married, how The Simpsons predicted the future over the years, and much more in this must-watch episode.
Yeardley co-hosts “Small Town Dicks” with retired, identical twin detectives, Dan and Dave. Now in its 10th season, the series covers true crimes. All cases shared on the podcast feature the detectives who investigated them from American small towns along with audio like 911 calls, recorded jailhouse phone calls, suspect interviews, and more.
To protect the detectives’ identity, the podcast withholds the guests’ last names and towns each crime happened in. If the detectives choose, they’re free to share their full names and locations.
Yeardley wants to know how and why detectives do their jobs and solve crimes. She talked about Paul Holes’ memoir Unmasked, written by the detective who broke the Golden State Killer case, and what listeners can expect from their interview on an episode.
Unmasked shares Holes’ history investigating cold cases and weaves the cost of that work through facts and anecdotes from cases he broke. Yeardley loves the human element of Holes’ book that draws in readers and she appreciates that everyone has a story to tell.
Yeardley told Podsauce she was dating Detective Dan 2 years before the podcast existed, and shared their serendipitous, small town meet cute at a Simpsons event. She talked about her upcoming marriage and what it’s like to continue voice acting on The Simpsons.
Yeardley shared her podcast picks including “Unlocking Us with Brené Brown,” “9 to 5ish with theSkimm,” “In the Dark,” “Heavyweight,” and “How I Built This with Guy Raz.” For fans of short Done in a Day style podcasts, she recommends “5 Questions with Dan Schawbel.”
